Baiyunshan Koujie Spray Has an Effect in Treating Skin Allergy

Koujie Spray, produced by Baiyunshan Pharmaceutical, is a commonly used external preparation for treating oral ulcers and sore, swollen throat. But recently I used it twice in succession to resolve skin allergy problems, and both times achieved good therapeutic results.

The first time: after eating Orleans-style food in the cafeteria, my surgical scar on the wrist became allergic. The scar had existed for more than ten years and had previously shown no adverse reaction. After this allergic reaction, redness, swelling, and itching appeared rapidly. These symptoms match the pathological features of a type I hypersensitivity reaction.

At the time I was in the classroom teaching; my hand was unbearably itchy, and I had no anti-allergy medicine on hand, but in my backpack there was a bottle of Koujie Spray. I thought that since it is a Chinese-medicine spray that clears heat and detoxifies, it might relieve the itching at the scar. So I sprayed it on the allergic area; unexpectedly the effect was surprisingly good—in just a few minutes the symptoms completely disappeared.

Last weekend, I returned to my Beijing home. Perhaps because of the hot, humid weather, my wife developed urticaria (hives), and it developed very quickly. Out of curiosity, I thought I would try Koujie again. As a result, within a few minutes of spraying, the urticaria rapidly subsided.

The main ingredients of Koujie Spray include Shanshanhua (Lonicerae Flos), Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos), Banlangen (Isatidis Radix), Bohenao (Menthol), and Eucalyptus oil, etc. TCM holds that these herbs have the action of clearing heat and detoxifying. The mechanism by which it treats allergy is difficult to clarify, and this indication is not on the package insert; my discovery that it can treat skin allergy was purely accidental. I record it here for now, to study carefully when I have time in the future.
