There Is a Kind of Beauty That Reveals Itself in Silence and Stillness
In an era saturated with noise, silence and stillness have become exceedingly rare. Everyone is in a hurry to express themselves to the world in one form or another—through words or through adornment—displaying themselves to the full. We have forgotten that a certain innate human beauty needs to reveal itself in silence and stillness. This beauty is called natural beauty: it is real and unadorned, needing no external embellishment. It therefore leaves one light and at ease, for it carries no unnecessary burden.
Nothing in life is more precious than genuine, simple joy. Such joy is born neither when a hall is full of friends and cups pass freely, nor when one returns home in fine clothes brimming with pride. It is born only in imperceptible, trivial moments.
In those moments, everything outside has nothing to do with us. We desire nothing, seek nothing; everything before our eyes is beautiful. We have laid aside all our masks, fallen silent in the midst of nature, and quietly savor the unburdened hours that belong to us as children of nature, as living, sentient beings.
Such an hour may be a languid afternoon, or a listless morning. We may be wandering at the foot of a mountain, or lying on the bed at home, with no one around whom we must please, and nothing we must accomplish. In that instant we are like our distant ancestors, drifting aimlessly across this planet, idling away the hours that somehow belong to us.
In such moments, we would rather be silent than speak more; we would rather be still than be restless. The natural beauty within us reveals itself like the stars in the silent night sky.
And this is precisely the pure beauty of life that our mother gave us. This beauty is real, not illusory, and easily attained—yet it is also easily overlooked by us precisely because it is so trivial.
But there always comes a moment in a person's life when he suddenly awakens and understands: what we truly need is, in fact, only this simple beauty.
