A Common TCM Scam: That Cancer Can Be Reversed
There are some fellows who understand nothing about cancer yet continually preach the following view among cancer patients and their families: cancer can be reversed—if you only find the cause of the cancer and do the opposite, the cancer can be cured. This naive and ridiculous view is even decked out in lofty titles like "reverse therapy." Such ignorant talk has always been popular with patients and their families, not because it is actually reasonable, but because emotionally they feel that believing it can bring them a glimmer of hope.
At the precancerous lesion stage, the progression of the disease can indeed be reversed. But once cancer has actually occurred, apart from treatment there is no way to reverse it. It is true that some people's cancers have spontaneously regressed, but the proportion is extremely low, the rules of such self-healing have not been discovered, and the reasons for these spontaneous cures are bizarre and unrepeatable. A truly meaningful medical method is one that can repeatedly achieve results in a large number of patients; only such a method can solve the health problems of the majority.
Cancer is irreversible—this is basic medical common sense. Any talk that violates this common sense is, intentionally or unintentionally, deceptive. The causes of cancer are very complex, and the exact cause of many cancers remains unknown. Some factors that induce cancer have been recognized, but others have not. After a person develops cancer, changing bad lifestyle habits and adjusting one's mindset are indeed beneficial to recovery and to preventing recurrence, and good lifestyle habits and mindset also help healthy people prevent cancer. However, these cannot serve as the primary means of cancer rehabilitation; recovery from cancer requires the power of medicine, and patients must also cherish their health, correct bad habits, adjust their mindset, eat a reasonable diet, and exercise moderately during recovery.
Most cancers have a long occult period that can last more than ten or even dozens of years. During this period the cancer progresses extremely slowly, but once it enters the growth phase the tumor develops rapidly. During the occult period the tumor cannot establish its own blood supply, so it grows very slowly and is hard to detect. But once it reaches a certain stage, blood vessels grow inside the tumor, establishing self-supply; as various nutrients are carried into the tumor through the blood, it develops rapidly. Once a patient is found to have a tumor or precancerous lesion, they should immediately begin active treatment and must not let various absurd talk delay them, until the cancer has grown too big to turn back.
