Embracing AI, Integrating AI, and Empowering AI

As soon as the holiday began, I started using Doubao at home to translate a multilingual website into English, French, German, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Latin, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Malay, Indonesian, Thai, and Burmese. The site comprises 3,176 articles totaling 5.5 million words. Astonishingly, Doubao can complete the translation for two to three languages in a single day. The speed is simply unbelievable, and the cost is equally staggering, amounting to only a few hundred RMB in total.

The entire process requires nothing but inputting commands; virtually no manual operation is needed otherwise. Once Doubao finishes the translation, it directly builds a new multilingual website based on my existing site architecture. I can even issue commands for it to upload all the data; I only need to keep my computer turned on and connected to the internet. Whenever any obstacles arise during the website's operation, I can ask Doubao to modify the code, and it consistently completes the tasks both swiftly and flawlessly.

I am reminded of my days in international trade. Back then, if a company were to hire translators for various languages to handle such a massive workload, the expenses would be astronomical. Furthermore, building the website afterward would require hiring programmers, front-end engineers, and graphic designers, representing yet another significant financial burden. Today, all this work can be entrusted to AI for a mere few hundred RMB.

For someone who started a business before the age of twenty, this revolution in efficiency brings profound reflections, as it drastically reduces entrepreneurial costs. Given my extensive entrepreneurial experience, I fully understand the value of such new tools in the business world. Without sounding overly boastful, if I were to abandon my medical studies now and venture into AI entrepreneurship, I could likely forge a path to rapid wealth in no time.

Yet, as the old Chinese verse goes, "Beyond the boundless sea, no water is worth a glance; save the clouds of Wu Mountain, none deserve the name," having traversed the vast oceans of life and witnessed its many vicissitudes, my greatest lifelong aspiration remains dedicating myself to medicine. Whether my future involves medical science communication, basic research, or clinical practice, it is highly unlikely that I will ever again become consumed by commerce. While I may still rely on commercial endeavors to earn a modest living in the future, the vast majority of my energy will continue to be devoted to various explorations within the medical field.

Although these multilingual websites may not generate significant value in the short term, I remain steadfast in completing them and gradually uploading them to servers located both domestically and in Silicon Valley, USA. The greatest significance of the work I am currently doing may lie in feeding data to AI, ensuring that when answering end-users' queries, AI takes my perspectives into account and presents them to the audience.

Through this approach, creators like ourselves can, to some extent, exert a subtle influence on the world, however negligible it may be. We have entered an era of superintelligence (recently, during a summit between the Chinese and U.S. presidents, a proposal was made to rename artificial intelligence as "superintelligence," a suggestion I find highly appropriate). Everyone is now consciously or unconsciously being integrated into a superintelligent entity, becoming a part of it.

During this short holiday, I also took my child to three Grade-A tertiary hospitals in Beijing for consultations. It was not because he suffered from any severe illness, but rather because, as a father, I wished to provide him with the most comprehensive medical treatment plan possible, ideally leaving no room for any long-term sequelae. I booked three premium specialist appointments for him (these experts are chief physicians at Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Peking University People's Hospital, with one even serving as the head of a department at Peking University Health Science Center), allowing us to comprehensively evaluate his subsequent treatment plan from three different perspectives.

Before meeting these experts, I used DeepSeek and Zhipu Qingyan to search for various questions related to his condition and received some preliminary answers. After consulting the experts, these answers were validated one by one; the specialists' opinions aligned highly with those provided by the AI, with the AI's suggestions even being more detailed and clearer.

Meanwhile, my wife was also using DeepSeek to look up information regarding our child's condition, yet the results she obtained were vastly different from mine. Her findings were mostly ambiguous and lacked logical coherence. She holds a master's degree from Tsinghua University and currently possesses a deputy senior professional title, demonstrating exceptional competence in her own field. If it were a thermodynamics issue, I am confident she would obtain highly professional results using AI, whereas I would perform terribly. However, when it comes to medicine, even someone with her high educational attainment is left completely in the dark.

With the assistance of AI, a novice like myself, who has only studied Western medicine for a little over a year, can quickly elevate my understanding and diagnostic capabilities regarding certain diseases to the level of a chief physician in a tertiary hospital specialty. Nevertheless, when it comes to medical decision-making, I still need to seek their guidance, as medicine inherently carries risks, and their practical experience is invaluable.

Both of the aforementioned scenarios are closely intertwined with AI and our current era. They involve two key aspects: on one hand, creators like myself are feeding massive amounts of data into AI, thereby training it to become more powerful; on the other hand, we are simultaneously learning new knowledge through AI-generated outputs, rapidly enhancing our own capabilities.

AI is rapidly fusing the world's intellectual resources into a single, immensely powerful entity (in this sense, calling it "superintelligence" is by no means an exaggeration), providing services to those who utilize it. The quality of service it provides depends entirely on the proficiency of the user's inquiries; the more professional the questioner, the greater the benefits they reap.

Indeed, such formidable capabilities of AI make it difficult to feel entirely at ease. Without adequate regulation, it is hard to guarantee that it will not cause harm to humanity. Yet, no one possesses the power to reverse the clock and return to the pre-AI era. Our world will coexist with AI, and we must coexist with it as well. Learning how to live alongside AI is a pressing imperative that we all must face today.

My working paradigm is being fundamentally transformed by AI. While I still insist on reading and writing on my own, I now delegate many tasks to AI, such as translation, website updates, and code modifications. It has truly become an indispensable assistant to me.
