First Case of Hepatitis B Seroconverted with Pure TCM Treatment
Patient Qi, from Liaoyuan, male, 50 years old, came along when his younger brother sought treatment from me for lymphoma. During the visit, he mentioned his family medical history. An elder in his family had died of liver cancer that developed from hepatitis B. Both he and his younger brother are hepatitis B patients. He had originally planned to undergo antiviral treatment, but after meeting me, he wanted to try TCM first. The patient had a wiry pulse, yellow greasy tongue coating, abdominal distension, and fatigue, along with chronic cholecystitis and gallstones. At his first consultation in Beijing in late February 2016, after taking his pulse, I decided to treat primarily with the method of fortifying the spleen and draining dampness, supplementing qi and resolving stasis. The formula was as follows:
Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) 10g, Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) 10g, Baizhu (Atractylodes Rhizome) 20g, Fuling (Poria) 20g, Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) 20g, Baishao (White Peony Root) 20g, Huaishan (Dioscorea) 20g, Lianqiao (Forsythia Fruit) 20g, Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit) 15g, Yinchen (Artemisia Capillaris) 20g, Chao Zhizi (fried Gardenia Fruit) 15g, Sheng Gancao (raw Licorice Root) 15g, Danshen (Salvia Miltiorrhiza) 40g, Jinqiancao (Lysimachia) 20g, Jineijin (Chicken Gizzard Lining) 30g, Haijinsha (Lygodium Spore) 20g, Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome) 15g, Muxiang (Aucklandia) 15g, Sheng Huangqi (raw Astragalus) 15g
Decoct in water, one dose per day, decoct twice, combine the two decoctions, and divide into three doses taken one hour after meals.
After one month of medication, the patient returned for re-examination. Two out of the three hepatitis B markers had seroconverted to negative.
This treatment approach was something I learned by chance from a liver cancer patient. This patient's father-in-law had been treated for hepatitis B by an old TCM doctor decades ago; two other hepatitis B patients had gone along, and all three were cured for many years. Unfortunately, of the original formula prescribed by that old TCM doctor, only a fragmented remnant remained. I had previously tried this remnant formula against hepatitis B without success, and later expanded upon it myself. Applying this approach to treat the hepatitis B of these two brothers produced very good results.
Incidentally, the patient's younger brother mentioned in this article is also a hepatitis B patient and a lymphoma patient. While treating his lymphoma, which shrank rapidly within three months, all the elevated markers caused by hepatitis B returned to normal, though he was also taking antiviral medication. I had previously suspected that his younger brother's controlled hepatitis B might be related to the antiviral drugs he was taking. Now, judging from the older brother's results, herbal medicine may have played a greater role.
Both patients continue treatment with me, and I will continue to follow up on their outcomes. I also plan to try this treatment approach on other hepatitis B patients in the near future to observe whether the efficacy is reproducible.
