I Have Returned to Beijing and Will Resume Normal Work Starting Tomorrow
Today I have returned from my hometown in Hubei to Beijing. Starting tomorrow (the sixth day of the first lunar month), I will resume normal work. Because the first wave has passed and both the infection peak and the severe-illness peak have receded, my work focus will return to its pre-pandemic state—focusing on cancer research.Thank you very much to all the friends who trusted me; thank you for daring to come to me for COVID treatment during the pandemic and for daring to try the various COVID treatments I described. This has given me rich clinical experience. Although the work of this period was very hard, my gains were enormous. I am gratified to have helped relieve people's suffering, and I thank you all for helping me improve my medical skills in the process. The ancients said: "Reading Wang Shuhe thoroughly is not as good as having many clinical encounters." My public account has long focused on medicine; it has more than 60,000 followers, and when these readers share my articles, some reach hundreds of thousands of reads. In this age, this influence is not much, but it has given me the opportunity to serve society and fulfill my wish of studying medicine to save people. The various medical knowledge I had accumulated over the years by reading the literature came into use in this wave of epidemic. Practice yields true knowledge; medicine is an experiential science, and large amounts of clinical practice can rapidly improve a physician's skill. Through treating COVID patients this time, I have personally felt how important the seemingly trivial daily accumulation is.Over so many years I have steadily accumulated medical knowledge day by day; this knowledge let me quickly find ways to relieve the suffering of my relatives and friends and of the patients who came to me for help in this epidemic. Later I also participated in the rescue of severe and critically ill patients, entering the deep end of COVID treatment. These experiences are even more precious; treating severe patients gave me a deeper understanding both of COVID as a disease and of TCM.This year I will continue on the road of medical research. Last year, out of emergency, I publicly released many formulas that were not yet mature. When I have time this year, I will carefully summarize my various experiences treating COVID and organize a more valuable set of COVID treatment insights for everyone's reference. But my time and energy are limited, and the oncology patients I serve also need my time and energy, so this work may take some days to complete. However, the various experienced formulas I have already published are enough to solve the various problems caused by COVID, so this is not an urgent task. The COVID virus is now a resident virus, and there may be two or three infection waves every year from now on. But however it mutates, as long as it remains a variant of the COVID family, the basic TCM approach to treating it will not change much. The treatment experience we groped out in the first national wave will remain effective in the future, so there is no need to worry. From now on, the threat of COVID will be much smaller, because we have already found a way to deal with it.TCM is a science of great practical value; in this epidemic I was often astonished by the clinical efficacy of some TCM formulas—their effectiveness really exceeded my expectations. For years I have focused on oncology, and that stubborn disease easily makes researchers discouraged and doubt the value of human medicine. But through treating COVID this time, I once again saw the greatness of human medicine. Both TCM and Western medicine are crystallizations of human wisdom, precious experience accumulated in humankind's struggle against disease. They help humankind fight death and guard our lives; both are remarkable sciences. This experience has strengthened my confidence and determination to continue deepening my study of medicine. I will remain true to my original intention, as always, set aside unnecessary socializing, and devote myself to medical research. If in my lifetime I achieve even the smallest contribution to medical research and make even a tiny practical contribution to curing disease and saving people, I will not have lived in vain. Finally, I wish everyone every success in the new year!
