Kuaiwei Shugan Wan: Stomach-Quick Liver-Soothing Pills

Kuaiwei Shugan Wan comes from Selected Formulas of Beijing Chinese Patent Medicines. It consists of Pianjianghuang (curcuma zedoaria slices) 48 g, Wuyao (lindera) 96 g, Baishao (white peony) 120 g, Houpo (magnolia bark, processed) 480 g, Jupi (tangerine peel) 120 g, Chenxiang (aquilaria/agarwood) 90 g, Muxiang (saussurea) 72 g, Xiangfu (cyperus, processed) 120 g, Sharen (amomum) 90 g, Zhiqiao (bitter orange, stir-fried) 120 g, Chaihu (bupleurum) 120 g, Qingpi (green tangerine peel, stir-fried) 120 g, Chuanxiong (Sichuan lovage rhizome) 95 g, Zidoukouren (purple cardamom kernel) 36 g, Danggui (angelica) 120 g, and Yanhusuo (corydalis, processed) 120 g.

Preparation: powder all the above finely, and with cold water make water-paste small pills. Make 200 pills per 30 g; coat with 390 g of huashi (talc) and 90 g of zhusha (cinnabar), polish, and pack in bags of 60 pills. Take twice daily, 30 pills each time, washed down with warm boiled water.

Kuaiwei Shugan Wan strengthens the stomach, soothes stagnation, and stops pain. It treats stabbing epigastric pain, fullness and gastric discomfort, distention of both hypochondria, vomiting, and acid regurgitation. This is an empirical formula for common diseases such as chronic gastritis, cholecystitis, and reflux esophagitis.
