My Danshari: Starting by Clearing Out My WeChat Moments Micro-essays
Over these two weeks, I have taken spare moments to clear out everything in my WeChat Moments except the links to my own articles. I deleted all the impromptu writing that ought to be deleted, and saved what was valuable, planning to organize it into formal articles when I have time and include it in my collected works.
The micro-essays I have written over the years may amount to two or three hundred thousand words. When clearing them out, I myself felt a pang; quite a few of the passages, looking back, were not too badly written.
When I first began clearing, I inevitably cherished my old broom as a treasure and could not bear to part with them. But in the end I made up my mind and cleared them all at once.
I have half-bidden farewell to social media. From now on, everything I write will be published on my WeChat official account and my personal website, for readers who have long followed my writing.
Among my WeChat friends, those who should not be kept long will be deleted as soon as they are added, so that, as time passes, I do not accumulate too many more inquirers. The flood of daily inquiries truly drains one dry.
After this period of sorting things out, at least my time for exercise, rest, study, writing and reading has increased.
From now on, apart from article links, my WeChat Moments will probably have no other updates. I hope everyone will gradually get used to this.
I will no longer spend time writing micro-essays in Moments just because some readers like fragmented reading. I want to save my time and energy for more meaningful research and writing.
In our age, everyone has become a slave to new technology. Ashamedly, I am no exception. Social media has stolen a great deal of my time and energy, affecting the efficiency of my study and my life.
Most critically, it has also affected my own health. My eyes and neck were overstrained; if this continued, I feared I, who had kept a forty-year record of not being nearsighted, would lose it in my old age.
After the adjustment, in just a few days my eyes and neck felt much better, and my sleep quality improved considerably.
As someone who studies healthy living, if my own life were not particularly healthy, that would be both absurd and ridiculous. If my own body is unhealthy, the meaning of everything I now do is greatly diminished.
This year I will carry my Danshari further, simplifying my life even more. I hope readers will understand.
If you have no need to book an appointment, please try not to add my personal work WeChat. The content in my Moments is already the same as on the official account; adding me brings nothing new.
From now on I will write more articles, and will push them promptly when done; attentive readers will see them on the official account.
Rather than moistening each other's in the dry rut, it is better to forget each other and roam the rivers and lakes. Keeping a little distance is good for both sides. I believe everyone will gradually adapt to this change.
