My Medical Philosophy: Two Beneficiaries of Large Formulas Share Their Treatment Stories

When I published the "My Medical Philosophy" series, two readers sent messages through the WeChat backend describing how they or their family members had been treated with large formulas by other TCM physicians with satisfactory results. Today I am sharing screenshots of those messages with everyone.

One cancer patient described the results he and his fellow patients achieved with large-formula treatment. In our conversation I found that, although his physician also used large formulas, the approach differed slightly from mine. He used the expensive decoction regimen I have always disliked (daily herb costs ran to over a thousand yuan—unaffordable for ordinary families; my pill/powder/paste/pellet regimen costs only about one-twentieth of that). But the patient's core demand is efficacy, and every effective regimen that earns patients' praise deserves study and research.

The other was the family of a gout patient who had found a TCM physician with a remarkable effect on gout using large formulas. I also asked this reader for that physician's proven gout formula and have pasted it into this article as an image. The elderly physician has stopped seeing patients for health reasons, so please do not disturb him.

The internet brings us many conveniences. I am very grateful to these two readers for sharing real cases of large-formula treatment. Across China, doctors have always used large formulas to treat disease. It is just that most clinicians, unlike me, lack strong writing skills and cannot distill their experience into theory that others can reference.

Cases like these make me even more eager, during my lifetime, to build and refine this theoretical system and promote it. I have studied medicine for over twenty years; those two decades have deeply impressed on me how many diseases remain unconquered and how many people are trapped in stubborn illnesses, waiting for doctors of real ability to help them.

The large-formula multi-target special therapy is no panacea; it cannot cure many diseases, and I have many failures of my own. Even so, it remains a treatment option worth trying for refractory disease. Nor is it an approach every doctor can wield well—just as, among students in the same school and classroom, not everyone excels. But I believe the more people who research this approach, the faster it will mature.

Over the past 11 years, I have already demonstrated through persistent writing my love of medicine and my resolve to carry out medical research. In the years to come, I will devote the rest of my life to promoting this regimen—one whose effectiveness I have verified in my own clinical practice and whose value I have also seen in the hands of many other doctors.
