Shuxiong Pian: A Patent Medicine for Widening the Chest and Relieving Pain
"Shuxiong Pian" is a modern patent Chinese medicine recorded in the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China. The formula consists of: Sanqi (Notoginseng Radix) 100 g, Honghua (Carthami Flos) 100 g, Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 200 g. The above three herbs are made into tablets according to a certain pharmaceutical process. Take 5 tablets each time, 3 times a day. The main effects of Shuxiong Pian are invigorating blood, dispelling stasis, and relieving pain. It mainly treats blood stasis blocking, chest impediment with cardiac pain, traumatic injuries, and stasis swelling and pain. It can be used in modern medicine for coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, and arrhythmia, and may also be used for soft tissue contusions. But this product has a relatively strong blood-activating action; it is contraindicated in pregnancy, and people with a bleeding tendency should use it cautiously under a doctor's guidance.
Sanqi, Honghua, and Chuanxiong in this formula are all blood-activating and stasis-resolving herbs; all three achieve their therapeutic purpose by invigorating blood and dispelling stasis. Among them, Sanqi has the dual actions of invigorating blood and stopping bleeding. This product indeed has a certain efficacy for cardiovascular diseases and soft tissue injuries caused by blood stasis and thrombosis. Because of Sanqi's bidirectional action of invigorating and stopping blood, this product can also be used to treat certain bleeding disorders; using this product to stop bleeding has the advantage of stopping bleeding without leaving stasis. But this product is not suitable for all bleeding patients, so those with a bleeding tendency should use it under a doctor's guidance.
The main indication of Shuxiong Pian remains coronary heart disease and angina pectoris. Because this product can relieve the chest tightness and chest pain caused by cardiac system diseases, it is named Shuxiong Pian (Chest-Comforting Tablet). Patients with severe chest tightness may use this product together with Danshen Diwan, Xuezhitong Capsule, or Shengmai Yin oral liquid.
