Three Straight Days of High Fever, Finally Feeling a Bit Better Today

Over the past three days I have run a high fever, three days on end. At first I felt odd and did not pay much attention; then I took my temperature — good heavens, 39°C. My brain felt as if it had stalled; thinking and memory both declined sharply, and I felt truly awful. Not until this evening did I feel basically clear-headed again.

This cold has dragged on for two weeks without resolving, and these past few days it really went big. Previously I generally caught my colds at the very onset, but this time — whether because the recently circulating pathogens are too complex or because I overworked myself — it lingered on and on, never quite clearing. A few days ago I thought I had recovered, but suddenly it worsened again. During the high fever I was almost delirious.

These past two days I have been drinking Uncaria & Mint tea, because along with the fever came a violent cough, and my throat felt as if it were burning from time to time. Today, my throat and chest feel much looser. If a cold is not stopped at the outset, you cannot avoid a major ordeal. I make my living with my brain, yet for days on end it felt clogged; I even wondered whether my brain had deteriorated to the point of being useless.

Recently, several pathogens have been circulating simultaneously across the whole of Asia, and densely populated places easily pass viruses and bacteria around. I hope everyone takes good care of themselves, especially my cancer-patient friends. Your immunity is weaker, and a cold is no easy matter to handle. This year, two more young people in my circle of acquaintances died suddenly, one aged 42 and one 35.

In my view, both were probably sudden deaths triggered by post-COVID sequelae. Before dying suddenly, they had only mild chest tightness and no very severe symptoms — rather like the reactions many people have after COVID. After developing mild chest tightness, they paid no attention, kept working, even stayed up late, and so died suddenly. Two young people in the prime of life dying suddenly like that — it is truly a pity.

These three days I have spent mostly in bed resting; when the fever was severe, I used a hair dryer to help induce sweating and bring it down. Tomorrow I plan to continue resting in bed and watch the course of the illness. So my replies may be delayed for a while; I hope everyone will understand.
