"Yulin Baokun Dan (Lion-Offspring and Treasure-Womb Pellet)" - An Effective Gynecological Formula
"Yulin Baokun Dan" is a contemporary effective gynecological formula, recorded in the Tianjin section of the National Collection of Chinese Patent Medicine Prescriptions (Quanguo Zhongcheng Yao Chufangji). Its composition is: Yimucao (Leonuri Herba) 500 g; Cu Xiangfu (vinegar-processed Cyperi Rhizoma) 120 g; Sheng Baishao (raw Paeoniae Alba Radix) 60 g; Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) 120 g; Guangmuxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) 30 g; Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix) 30 g; Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) 30 g; Xuduan (Dipsaci Radix) 60 g; Duzhong Tan (Eucommiae Cortex, salt-fried to charcoal) 60 g.
When preparing, first grind all the above herbs into fine powder, make pills with refined honey, each pill weighing 9 g. For every 500 g of pill mass, use 9 g of Zhusha (cinnabar) powder as a coating, and seal with a wax shell or wax paper tube. Take 1 pill each time, washed down with plain boiled water, twice daily.
This formula has the effect of nourishing blood and aiding conception. It is indicated for women with qi stagnation and blood deficiency, irregular menstruation (either early or delayed), abdominal pain during menstruation, poor appetite, fatigue and lassitude, and infertility.
This formula uses Zhusha (cinnabar) as a coating; nowadays cinnabar is not recommended, and this single herb may be omitted, because cinnabar easily causes cumulative poisoning. The prescribing logic of this formula is excellent: Xiangfu and Muxiang move qi; Chaihu soothes the liver and relieves depression; Danggui, Baishao and Danshen invigorate blood and nourish blood; Duzhong and Xuduan tonify the kidney and strengthen bone; Yimucao invigorates blood, unblocks menstruation, and also promotes diuresis. With such composition, it has a regulatory effect on dysmenorrhea, delayed or early menstruation in women, and also has some effect on infertility caused by fallopian tube blockage.
This formula can be used in the treatment of various gynecological diseases, not limited to the above, and can even be used as an adjunctive medication for gynecological tumor patients and male prostate disease patients. This formula also has a strong diuretic effect, and has some alleviating effect on edematous conditions.
However, there is currently no Chinese patent medicine produced according to this formula, and it is not easy for patients to prepare it themselves according to the prescription. This formula can be modified into a decoction, using the dose at one-tenth of the original.
