Zhang Xichun's Huafu Shengji San
Huafu Shengji San is from Zhang Xichun's Yixue Zhongzhong Canxi Lu. It consists of: Luganshi (calamine, calcined) 18 g, Ruxiang (Olibanum) 9 g, Moyao (Myrrha) 9 g, Mingxionghuang (realgar) 6 g, Pengsha (Borax) 9 g, Naosha (sal ammoniac) 0.6 g, Bingpian (Borneolum) 0.9 g. Grind all the herbs into a fine powder and store in a sealed bottle away from air. When using, take it out and sprinkle/apply to the affected area, 3-4 times daily. This formula generates flesh and promotes healing; it is indicated for scrofula and ulcers that have already broken down. If the wound heals slowly after using this formula, add 0.3 g of Zhenzhu Fen (pearl powder).
Ulceration of wounds is common in surgery; tumor patients are prone to it. Patients with late-stage lymphoma or breast cancer easily develop ulcerated surface tumors, which are extremely hard to nurse. Zhang Xichun's formula has an astringent, wound-converging effect; at the same time, the Ruxiang, Moyao, Xionghuang and Naosha all have anti-tumor action. Xionghuang and Naosha are common Chinese medicine 'using poison to attack poison' herbs; although toxic, because they are applied externally rather than taken internally, safety is acceptable.
Zhang Xichun's preparation method is not convenient. Today we can use Vaseline as an excipient to make this formula into an ointment; when using, simply apply it to the affected area like a skin cream, and the effect is better. Vaseline also protects the skin. To make the ointment: first grind all the herbs into an extremely fine powder. Heat the Vaseline until liquid, stir in the herbal powder, mix well, and allow to cool and solidify. Store the finished ointment in a sealed jar and use it like a cosmetic cream.
Used on a ruptured tumor, this formula--even if effective--will not fully repair the ulcer in the short term; the patient must use it patiently for some time. It is best to combine internal and external treatment: ask a doctor to prescribe matching internal herbs to go with this external application, and the result will be better.
