I Have Been Admitted to the Clinical Medicine Program at a Public Medical School

Readers have kept asking me about my gaokao admission results; I will answer once here. This year I have been admitted to the clinical medicine program (commonly called "Western medicine") at a public medical school in the north, not far from Beijing. I am very satisfied with the result, so I have decided to go. To protect my privacy I will not name the school, and I ask friends I do not know personally not to press me on it.

Classes begin on September 6, with military training until September 22, after which formal coursework starts. From what I gathered on the school's Tieba forum, our schedule is almost full Monday through Friday, and there is evening self-study every night; only weekends and statutory holidays are free. Medical schools have long been said to be "like senior year every year," so such a schedule is understandable.

Thus, whether I can keep updating my articles after the semester starts is uncertain. If I still have the energy to write something each day, I will try to keep up a habit that has lasted for decades and continue sharing with readers here on my personal site and WeChat official account. Small bits of life may occasionally appear on my WeChat video channel.

By the way, apart from my personal site, WeChat official account, and WeChat video channel, I have no other self-media accounts. I still have no Douyin account, and I deleted my Weibo years ago; my WeChat video channel contains no medical videos, only occasional snippets of everyday life. So please do not trust anyone impersonating me on other platforms.

I have long had a dream: to study both Chinese and Western medicine, integrate the two, and hold licenses in both. Now that dream is about to become real, and I am undoubtedly delighted. Both Chinese and Western medicine serve human health; disease has always been hard to solve, and learning one more skill is no bad thing. In society, Chinese and Western medicine may be set against each other, but in my heart there is no opposition between them.

I have no prejudice against either, and I love both. I hope that after a systematic clinical medical education, my skill will take another step forward. This year I chose clinical medicine as my major not because I am turning away from TCM, but simply because my ideal is to master both. I also encourage friends who truly love medicine, if conditions allow, to learn both Chinese and Western medicine.

How many years I will study full-time, I do not yet have a fixed plan; it will depend on the health of my family. If all goes well at home, I hope to spend more time improving myself. If the family needs me back sooner to care for it, some of my plans may be delayed, and completing this clinical medical education will mark a pause.
