The College Entrance Exam Is Over; I Have Returned to Beijing and Will Resume Normal Work on June 12

This year's national college entrance exam (gaokao) is over, and the experience did not go smoothly for me.

The day before the exam, June 6, my elderly father accidentally fell and fractured a bone, and was admitted to hospital. I took him to the hospital, got him settled, and spent the whole night awake. On June 7, relying on three cups of coffee, I barely got through the Chinese and math exams. On June 8 my father had surgery and developed a high fever afterward; after finishing physics and English, I went to the hospital to look after him. On June 9 I persisted through the last two subjects, chemistry and biology, and then went to the hospital to care for my father.

On the night of the 9th I slept only a little over three hours. Fortunately, my father's fracture was not serious; he had minimally invasive surgery and recovered quickly. On June 10 I took the high-speed train back to Beijing, sleeping a few hours on the train, which finally eased my exhaustion somewhat. On the afternoon of June 11 I had to be back in Beijing because a court hearing was scheduled in the lawsuit I had filed against an insurance company over a previous traffic accident.

I am exhausted right now and badly need a deep sleep, so I plan to resume normal work on June 12. The long-term patients who follow me were kind enough not to disturb me during the exam period, and I am grateful for that—thank you all for your understanding and support. The backlog of work I will begin scheduling, one item at a time, starting the day after tomorrow. For today and tomorrow, I hope you will let me rest quietly; please do not contact me unless it is important. I will be in touch once my strength returns.
