"Wuzhi Anzhong Yin" (Five-Juice Middle-Regulating Drink) for Relieving Symptoms of Esophageal and Cardiac Cancer
"Wuzhi Anzhong Yin" originates from Experienced Prescriptions. It has the actions of nourishing the stomach and generating fluids, harmonizing the middle and lowering counterflow. It can be used for dysphagia (ye ge) belonging to the fluid-deficiency and heat-accumulation pattern. Symptoms include choking and pain upon swallowing, difficulty swallowing solid food and medications, barely maintaining life on liquids alone, dry mouth and throat, emaciation, a red and dry tongue, and dry stool like sheep feces.
These symptoms commonly appear in patients with advanced esophageal cancer and cardiac cancer; patients with reflux esophagitis may also present with them. "Wuzhi Anzhong Yin" is composed of five juices: milk 100g, Chinese chive juice 10g, pear juice 30g, lotus root juice 30g, and ginger juice 3g. Mix the five juices well and sip frequently in small amounts; do not rush.
If the patient has severe yin-fluid deficiency, obvious dry throat and mouth, and five-center heat, fresh Jiaogulan (Gynostemma), Shashen (Glehniae/Lycii Radix), Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), and Tiandong (Asparagi Radix), 10g each, may be juiced and taken together. If the stool is dry and hard, 10-30g of Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) and 1-6g of Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, powdered) may be added and taken together with the liquid; Mangxiao dissolves in liquid, and the Dahuang powder should be stirred well.
According to the author's experience, if the patient can barely even swallow liquids, they may first hold a small amount of Mangxiao (1-5g) alone in the mouth; once they can swallow liquids, then use "Wuzhi Anzhong Yin." However, Mangxiao should not be taken frequently, to avoid unnecessary damage to the body.
This formula cannot cure esophageal or cardiac cancer; it can only relieve the swallowing difficulty of patients with these conditions. If cancer treatment is desired, other anti-cancer drugs must be used concurrently. This formula can also be used to support patients with esophageal and cardiac cancer presenting the above symptoms during radiotherapy and chemotherapy. If this formula can be used together with 30-60 ml of fresh white goose blood (or white duck blood), the effect is even better. When using white geese and white ducks, be sure to choose healthy poultry.
This method works slowly and requires the patient to cooperate with other anti-cancer measures and persist long-term.
